Growth Form: Small to medium-sized, terrestrial, clumped herbs with ovoid to depressed pseudobulbs.

Leaves: Leaves simple. Arising near apex of pseudobulbs, 1 to several per pseudobulb. Blades plicate. Veins parallel. Stipules absent.

Flowers: Flowers in racemose inflorescences arising from the basal leaf axil, each one subtended by an often colored bract. Flowers bisexual (perfect), purple to pink or white to yellow, unscented. Sepals spreading or reflexed, essentially similar to one another, usually broadly ovate to elliptic. Corolla Lateral petals similar to sepals; labellum adnate to base of column, conspicuously 3-lobed or rarely entire, lateral lobes arising from base of labellum, middle lobe variable in shape, distinctly clawed, basal part of labellum with 2 prominent callose protuberances and a single pair of laterally spreading teeth. Stamen 1, adnate to and surrounding the style forming a column. column curved toward labellum, slender with an expanded apex, unappendaged; anther terminal, persistent. Pollinia 8, joined in 2 groups of 4, unequal in size, hard and waxy, each with a short caudicle. Ovary inferior, 3-carpellate; stigma deeply recessed into the anterior apex of column, entire.
